Brothers,

As we enter Week 36 together, we're reminded that our walk of faith isn't just a private matter - it's lived out in how we treat those around us. Romans 12:10 challenges us with a profound truth: we are called to "outdo one another in showing honor". This week's prayer invites God to shape us into men of honor who genuinely respect others, while our meditation calls us to reflect deeply on practical ways to demonstrate this honor in our daily relationships. In a culture that often prioritizes self-promotion and personal rights, we have the opportunity to stand apart as men who value others above ourselves, recognizing that every person bears the image of God and deserves our respect.

Prayer:

God, help me to be a man of honor, respecting others. (Romans 12:10)

Meditation:

Reflect on ways you can show greater honor and respect to those around you.

Quote:

“We should never insult others on account of their faults, for it is our duty to show charity and respect to everyone… The Lord commands us to do good unto all men without exception, though the majority are very undeserving when judged according to their own merits. But scripture here helps us out with an excellent argument when it teaches us that we must not think of man’s real value, but only of his creation in the image of God to which we owe all possible honor and love.” – John Calvin

Book Recommendation:

The Puritans on Loving One Another (Collection Edited by Don Kistler)

In a culture obsessed with shallow connections and performative love, "The Puritans on Loving One Another" offers something revolutionary: a vision of Christian love that is both supernaturally empowered and practically transformative. This compact collection dismantles every stereotype about "stuffy" Puritans by revealing four master theologians who understood that authentic love - not rules or rituals - serves as the defining mark of Christ's disciples. Ralph Venning, Thomas Manton, Joseph Caryl, and John Ball write with pastoral warmth about love as both "duty and delight," providing biblical wisdom that cuts through modern church conflicts, shallow relationships, and spiritual mediocrity with surgical precision. At just over 100 pages, this isn't a massive time commitment, but these 17th-century insights will fundamentally reshape how you understand Christian community, making it essential reading for anyone who wants their faith to be marked by the kind of love that makes the world take notice.
