Peter Was Rescued from Prison

God answered the people’s prayers for Peter. God had a plan for Peter and the church, and He rescued Peter from his enemies. Peter knew he would face death because he believed in Jesus, but he kept going so he could share the good news of the gospel.

ELEMENTARY GK STORY:

LIL' GK STORY:

STORY:

King Herod Agrippa wanted to kill Peter because he taught about Jesus.  While Peter was in prison, the church asked God to rescue Peter. God’s people have hearts that want to talk with Him and come to Him for all their needs. Prayer is the way we come into God’s presence. Prayer is how we talk and listen to God so that we can be comforted by Him, experience His peace, and strengthen our faith in Him.

God heard the church’s prayers and sent an angel to rescue Peter.  Peter had been asleep when the angel came to rescue him. Peter was willing to die for the gospel because he had faith that even if he died for Jesus, he would live forever with Him. God used the prayers of His people to rescue Peter from prison. God may not always answer our prayers how we want Him to or how we think He should. But God always hears our prayers and as we pray, we grow to trust God more.

As the church meets together, we can pray for Christians around the world who may be suffering, like Peter, trusting that God hears our prayers.

DISCUSSION QUESTION #1:   How can you be praying for others? Who do you know that needs prayer?

ANSWER: Discuss how everyone needs people praying for them. Discuss how we can pray for people’s needs, but that we should also pray for people’s spiritual growth. Remind kids that God hears our prayers and that as we pray we grow closer to Him. (See Eph. 6:18 for optional reading)

DISCUSSION QUESTION #2: What if God does not answer our prayers as we hope?

ANSWER: Discuss how James was also arrested but God chose not to rescue him from death. Tell kids that God’s wisdom and plans are far beyond our understanding. Remind kids that following Jesus means trusting Him even when our prayers are not answered as we hope, knowing that one day everything will be made right. (See Rom. 12:12 for optional reading)
