Peter Preached in Jerusalem

Peter’s sermon shows the Holy Spirit’s power to save and change those who trust in Jesus. God used Peter to preach about Jesus to the crowd so that thousands of others would believe and be changed as well. All who believe in Jesus are changed and will never be the same.

Read all or parts of Acts 2:14-41 from your Bible or watch the Bible story video.

ELEMENTARY GK STORY:

LIL' GK STORY:

STORY: Peter had the courage and wisdom to preach the gospel because he had just been filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helped Peter remember the words from the Bible that taught about the Spirit’s power. The Holy Spirit helps us share the gospel by reminding us of God’s Word. We don’t have to be fearful or nervous. Like Peter, we can share our faith and trust that the Spirit will help us.

After Peter shared the gospel, the people knew they had sinned and asked what they should do. Peter told the people to repent, to turn away from their sins and to turn to God. He told them that they would receive forgiveness and be given the Holy Spirit. This is another way the Spirit is our Helper. He gently shows us our sin so that we can respond by asking for forgiveness. God wants to forgive us, and He will when we ask Him.

Thousands of people trusted in Jesus and were baptized. Not only did God save them from their sin, but He began to change them.  They wanted to be taught God’s Word, gave what they had to meet people’s needs, praised God, and continued to meet together. When we trust in Jesus, the Spirit lives in us and changes us to bring glory to God.

DISCUSSION QUESTION #1: Why can we be bold (or confident) when we tell others about Jesus?

ANSWER: Although we might feel afraid or unsure about sharing the gospel, we should be confident that the Holy Spirit will help us. God doesn’t put the pressure on us to save people; we are just called to be faithful, obedient, and loving to tell others about Jesus. Remind kids that it is the power of God that saves people from sin.

DISCUSSION QUESTION #2: (Big Picture Question) Why does God command Christians to tell others about Jesus?

ANSWER: Use the Key Passage (Romans 10: 14) to guide students to this conclusion (the answer to our Big Picture Question): "We tell others about

Jesus so they will hear and believe in Him/the good news."
