Grace and Peace to you brothers.
This week we turn our attention to one of the most essential disciplines of the Christian life: standing firm against spiritual warfare. As James reminds us, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The enemy does not cease his assault on our faith, our families, our integrity, and our walk with Christ. Yet we are not defenseless. This week’s meditation calls us to examine the strategies by which we stand—not merely passive defense, but active resistance rooted in submission to God’s authority. We will consider how genuine strength in spiritual battle flows not from our own willpower or determination, but from a posture of humble submission to the Lord, from the discipline of prayer and the practice of obedience. As you engage this week’s prayer and reflection, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the specific areas where the enemy has gained footing in your life, and to equip you with the resolve and wisdom to stand firm. Your victory is not uncertain; it is assured in Christ. Let us pray earnestly, think carefully, and act decisively in this crucial matter of our spiritual defense.
Prayer:
God, grant me the strength to resist the enemy's attacks. (James 4:7)
James 4:7:
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Meditation:
Consider strategies for standing firm against spiritual warfare in your life.
Quote:
“If you will tell me when God permits a Christian to lay aside his armour, I will tell you when Satan has left off temptation. Like the old knights in war time, we must sleep with helmet and breastplate buckled on, for the arch-deceiver will seize our first unguarded hour to make us his prey. The Lord keep us watchful in all seasons, and give us a final escape from the jaw of the lion and the paw of the bear.” — Charles Spurgeon

Spiritual Warfare: A Biblical and Balanced Perspective by Brian Borgman and Rob Ventura
Discover the Armor You Already Have
Are you confused about spiritual warfare? Do demonic forces seem to lurk everywhere, or does the entire concept feel outdated and irrelevant? Spiritual Warfare: A Biblical and Balanced Perspective cuts through the confusion with remarkable clarity.
Written by pastors Brian Borgman and Rob Ventura, this 128-page volume avoids two dangerous extremes: sensationalizing Satan while missing biblical reality, or minimizing the genuine spiritual struggle every Christian faces. Instead, the authors provide what leading theologians call "one of the finest and most biblically responsible studies of spiritual warfare now available"—a Christ-centered approach grounded entirely in Ephesians 6:10-20.
What makes this book essential reading? It equips you to think biblically about spiritual combat rather than relying on superstition or formulaic techniques. You'll discover that spiritual warfare is fundamentally about sanctification—growing in holiness by resisting sin, pursuing truth, living righteously, and standing firm in Christ's finished work. More importantly, the authors repeatedly remind you that Christ has already won the battle; your role is learning to appropriate His victory in daily life.
Perfect for men's ministry groups, small group study, or personal reflection, each chapter includes discussion questions. Whether you're pastoring, discipling others, or seeking to understand your own struggles, this book delivers theological depth without academic density.
Stop fighting blind. Start fighting the way Scripture teaches. Read Spiritual Warfare and learn why Voddie Baucham calls it a "timely, refreshing, encouraging, and empowering" resource.
