Grace and Peace to you brother.
As we enter week 23, our focus is on James 1:19: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” This powerful verse calls us to a higher standard in our daily interactions—reminding us that true strength lies in self-control, humility, and a willingness to hear others before reacting. James urges us to be men who listen deeply, speak with intention, and manage our anger, knowing that these habits reflect our trust in God’s sovereignty and help us grow in faith, even through life’s challenges. Let’s embrace this wisdom together, seeking to honor God not just in what we say, but in how we listen and respond.
Prayer:
Father, teach me to be quick to listen and slow to speak. (James 1:19)
Meditation:
Consider how you can improve your listening skills in your relationships.
Quote:
The larger context of this part of James is about not just our words but the word of God in us. We must hear God's word, which is received "with meekness" (v. 21), and do it. This is in contrast to the person who "does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart" (v. 26). James agrees with Jesus that what a man says closely agrees with what's happening in his heart. A man in whom God's word has taken root is not arrogant and will not speak the first thing that occurs to him, but rather will consider his words carefully. – Jack K
