Brothers,
Some weeks feel like we’re firing on all cylinders, other weeks we’re more aware of the dents and dings in our walk with Christ. Psalm 51 reminds us that God is not surprised by that and He is not put off by men who come to Him honest and humbled, asking, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10, ESV). As we lean into this year’s focus to renew our minds, Week 12 is a good moment to stop pretending we’re better than we are, bring our failures into the light, and remember that in Christ, restoration is not a long shot but a sure promise. Wherever you are this week, bring your whole self to the Lord in repentance and faith, and let Him do the heart work only He can do.
What’s one specific place you need to ask God to “renew a right spirit” in you this week?
Prayer:
God, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
Psalm 51:10 - Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Meditation:
David’s prayer came after a moral failure. Reflect on the grace that is available to restore you when you fail to follow perfectly.
Quote:
R. C. Sproul - "David understands that his problem is not just a slip here and there. He is asking God to create a clean heart in him, because what he needs is not a tune-up but a new engine. That is why this Psalm has become the classic prayer of repentance in the history of the church."

Book Recommendation:
Out of the Depths: Psalm 51 – D. Martyn Lloyd‑Jones
There comes a point in a man’s life when he has to stop dodging honest questions. What kind of man am I really becoming? What do I reach for when no one is looking? *Out of the Depths* walks straight into those questions with David in Psalm 51, not to crush you but to bring you face to face with the God who deals truthfully and mercifully with sinners.
Lloyd‑Jones is not interested in shallow regret or vague spirituality. He patiently shows how real repentance begins with a clear sight of our sin before a holy God, moves through wholehearted confession, and then discovers that we cannot clean ourselves up but must be washed and renewed by God himself. This is not theory to him; it is about a man standing before God with nothing to hide and nothing to offer but his need.
If you are tired of pretending, tired of religious talk that never reaches your conscience, this book will help you come into the light without losing hope. It will call you to serious self‑examination, but it will also hold out the promise of a clean heart, a restored joy, and a steadier walk with God than you have known before.
